Christian Universalism teaches that everyone will eventually be saved through Jesus.
We believe that teaching is false. Jesus warns of judgment and calls us to repent and believe. Promising that everyone will be saved can give people false confidence when they need to respond to him now.
Many Christian Universalists believe everyone will eventually repent, even after death. The question is whether Scripture promises that outcome. Jesus gives a warning about judgment, not an assurance that every person will later be saved.
When God describes himself to Moses, he speaks of compassion, forgiveness, and guilt in the same passage. Jesus offers eternal life to those who believe in him and warns of condemnation. We need to hear both.
Jeremiah’s promise of a future and a hope was spoken to exiles facing a seventy-year wait. In Colossians, Paul speaks about reconciliation and continuing in faith. Neither passage should be reduced to an isolated slogan.
